Briarport is a major trade port known for its cliffside views, flourishing trade, and the its ringing of its bells every midday known as The Moment of Song. During this time, in the many public gardens, cafes, and amphitheaters of the city, musicians perform to the days’ chosen symphony of city-wide bell ringing. Once a year the city hosts a bardic competition called the Battle of the Bards.
The city is named after the strange briar-like tentacle-plants that plague the port which are kept in check by the magic generated by the music of the city.
Briarport is the largest city controlled by The Free Peoples of the Lowlands, a new country made up of a unification of the peoples of the fertile lowlands. This was the first area to be left behind by the Emerald Empire’s retreat, leaving them exposed to raiders and warlords, and forcing these peoples to unite to survive.
Perhaps most notable among these peoples are the nomadic centaurs found nowhere else in the Sunfall Coast. When a pact between empire citizens and the centaurs was signed agreeing to mutual benefit and protection, the Free Peoples were created.
